DIY Trailer for Moving Big Objects

DIY Trailer for Moving Big Objects

Dear Peter,
I have already bought components from Hinterher twice to build a custom DIY trailer. I am really pleased with the quality of design and craftmanship, these exceed my expectations and made the design and fabrication of my trailer much easier.
I thought you might be interested in the final result, to potentially add it to your galerie:
We successfully moved upward of 80kg of boxes and objects, on flat ground and at low speed. Moving the sofa by bike has been a head turner: the best reaction I have got so far was "Megacool!". We initially tried to move the sofa frame with a minivan but it would not fit, so this is one instance where a bike trailer was superior to a car! One thing that may not be obvious from the picture is that the entire frame is made of 25mmx2mm square aluminum and bolted on using tri-joints following the Gridbeam pattern (https://gridbeam.xyz/). The frame is made stronger and more rigid with two sheets of 12mm marine plywood, that also serve as the bed of the trailer, with a third small section underneath to have the bulk of the weight of the cargo rest directly on the axle. Using the gridbeam pattern has made experimenting with various configurations easier. The picture shows the configuration I finally settled on that is pretty versatile for moving boxes and big objects. Thanks to the removable arm and wheels it is easier to navigate the tight staircase and low ceiling that leads to the basement where we store the bike and trailer.
I had to build adapter plates to fit the hole patterns of the arm, aluminium holders, and the folding feets to the grid beam pattern at 25mm width ( (therefore holes must be spaced at multiples of 25mm) using 6.5mm holes for M6 bolts. Maybe the process could be sped up for future customers by offering adapter plates directly in your store?
Best regards,
Erick
